The vines are located on a hillside in the heights of Vernou-sur-Brenne, with clay-limestone soil and rest on a thick layer of tuffeau.
Tuffeau is a soft limestone with very interesting properties because it retains water and diffuses it to the roots of the vines during periods of drought.
The porosity of tuffeau is very high: it is a true “blotting” rock capable of accumulating large quantities of water.
Tuffeau was used to build the famous Châteaux of the Loire.
